The kitchen is perhaps the most popular room in any home, and paying special attention to it can pay off handsomely when it comes time to resell a home. There is so much to keep in mind when designing a quality kitchen, but three factors are especially important.
Accessibility
It is inconvenient to have foods, measuring instruments, and other cooking items located far from those areas where most food preparation is done, so kitchens should be designed with a view to putting everything within arms reach. Storing measuring instruments, pans, and spices in those areas where most food preparation is done is a great idea. Under cabinet lighting, spice racks, and other little details can make it easier to see recipes and find ingredients, leading to a more pleasurable cooking experience.
Community
Family and friends seem to love gathering in the kitchen to talk about the day and watch (or even help!) food preparation. Having some barstools at the kitchen counter if the kitchen layout makes it possible can be a good way to invite company into the kitchen. Creating little work stations one for chopping, one for washing dishes, and so forth can give everyone a space in the kitchen to work and play.
Conservation
Much of a homes energy costs are racked up in the kitchen, so having energy-efficient appliances can go a long way toward lowering electric costs. Most manufacturers will have excellent energy-efficient models with a good Energy Star rating from the government, so there are a variety of options for every homeowner to choose from. Be sure not to forget the appearance of the appliances either, as a kitchen with matching colors looks far better than one that is mismatched.
